Draganflyer X4 the Hovering Tripod

14 08 2009

Draganflyer X4

I mentioned in a previous post that I dream of having a hovering tripod some day. Well what do you know – it exists! Draganflyer X4, created by Draganfly Innovations Inc., is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) like the ones the government uses in Iraq or Afghanistan. It uses 4 rotors to maintain stability and is controlled remotely by a wireless radio. There are many uses,  including aerial & wildlife photography, law enforcement, military tactical surveillance, environmental assessment and others. Unlike their evil brothers, which cost millions,  the X4 can be had for $10,000. It’s $9,800 over my budget but I still want one. I can only hope that someday they can produce one for $200. Video on next page. (via Gizmodo)

One Gigabit Broadband Coming to Portugal

One Gigabit Broadband Coming to Portugal

Portugal just joined South Korea and Japan in offering one gigabit per second broadband to their fine citizens. Yes, you heard that right, one gigabit! One gigabit is roughly a  hundred times the speed of a typical 1 Mbps DSL line! A one-hundred-megabyte file (100 MB) takes 9 minutes to download on DSL but less than a second on 1 Gbps. I’m moving there.
